Catalogs & Coincindences |
Hi All, I just finished the workday/weekend stats for YR2001 and strangely, during the month of January there were no quakes recorded on Thursdays for the entire month. As you may recall this happened during the month of March for 2004. How odd. I'd scratch it up to just a curiosity except that its the same day of the week. That's a little too strange. Don will be running a catalog search through NEIC to see if they recorded anything for Thursdays for those months. I'm starting to think John may have been right. Aside from that, 2001 showed an even more remarkable support for fewer quakes on Saturdays and Sundays. This time it was Saturdays 59/Sundays 63, with a weekday monthly average of 86. So I'll throw this question out for anyone who may wish to offer an answer. If our reports conclude that there are fewer earthquakes on Saturdays and Sundays than the rest of the week, can we conclude that commuter traffic is responsible? If not, why not? There is such a dramatic change upon the landscape of the Earth with commuter traffic which affords a certain type of movement upon the land, sound and weight, what else could be a more obvious effect? One should remember too that during this time period there were no major earthquakes, therefore any quakes occurring would primarily be in the background. Petra
