Two years ago, or maybe three now, I asked the AGU board if I submitted an abstract for a poster if they would accept it. I was told very plainly that earthquake safety is not a science and therefore was not acceptable and I would receive a declination if I submitted an abstract.

Mind you I pointed out to them that Brian Tucker of GeoHazards had a poster and he deals with refugees from earthquakes. Hardly any science to that either.

But you know, if I want to spent $1600 for a booth for a week that's ok and I would also have to pay to attend the event as well and all of the other associated costs. How kind.
