Not Confusing Enough |
Hi John. You didn’t make it confusing enough so I thought I would take a shot at it. I’m not that familiar with the quake history for Southern California, but do have a pretty good knowledge of the Bay Area. The Loma Prieta quake didn’t do a thing in regards to causing things to go quiet in the Bay Area. We would need about 30 Loma Prieta quakes to release the same amount of energy as one 1906 earthquake. About the only thing the Loma Prieta quake did was bought us above 7 years of grace on the southern segment of the Hayward fault. The creep there was seen to actually reverse. I’m sure someone smarter then I am can explain the mechanics of that. The Loma Prieta quake was just another quake in a series of quakes before we get the next big one. That could be this afternoon, tomorrow, or next week. No one really knows for sure when, but they know it’s coming. The number one fault to watch is the Rodgers Creek Fault. The Loma Prieta quake had no affect on that fault. No movement of any kind was seen there, or in the surrounding area. The southern segment of the fault is still locked. It may be that there just isn’t enough room for it to move, or it could be something else.
