Re: S. Indo Quake Could Have Warned. |
I don't mean this to sound harsh, but predicting a 5.0 for Indonesia is kinda like shooting fish in a barrel or forecasting a 3.0 for southern california. They happen nearly daily in both areas..(OK - so not daily, but what avg every 3 days ?) - So to say that for Indonesia for a 7 day period doesn't get too many people to sit up and take notice. Maybe Alan Jones can help me here and take a look at the posting #1906 and come up with some statistics like he did for Dennis's predictions ? it appears that you have choosen the most active places for quakes and your magnitudes are such that you should get many hits. It is a good hit though. -In looking at a number of quakes in 'Indonesia' - the Longitude range seems to be rather broad - from 103E to 139E or so - that's quite a large area. (at least 2000 miles across ?) - maybe next time you can define your indonesian area ? And where is this: Canie Follow Ups: ● Re:It's a FORECAST - martin@n.i.c.e. 00:25:00 - 12/23/1999 (1953) (2) ● Re:It's a FORECAST - Cathryn 11:03:56 - 12/23/1999 (1958) (1) ● Re:It's a FORECAST - martin in Victoria 12:20:36 - 12/24/1999 (1971) (0) ● Re:It's a Challenge - Juan Tamad 01:40:54 - 12/23/1999 (1954) (1) ● Re:It's a ha ge - earthquakes at dawn... 03:51:06 - 12/23/1999 (1955) (1) ● Re:It's East Russia at dawn - n.i.c.e 14:28:24 - 12/23/1999 (1959) (0) |
