Forecasting quakes is like forecasting weather. People such as surfers and scientists, photographers, disaster relief as well as residents of quake stricken areas can know from the laypersons point of view what the CHANCES are for an earthquake in a paticular region. People who read these boards know what's to be expected in high risk areas, but what about Aunt Hilda who is planning a vacation to Albania TOMORROW. How can she find out what the chances are in a given region? PLEASE monitor the accuracy, if you are really curious I'll publish my detailed notes, I study faults until I know their heartbeat, tremor by tremor <3Mb-.7Mb I can tell where they are blasting the logging roads and I am a wilderness advocate. Useful to some. Evidence forecasting HONSHU 5.9 only prediction I had ventured for Japan was Honshu 5.5-6.5, 15 hours before. I forecast the Victoria B.C. 4m a full day before and have dozens of witnesses including the local media. I do not make really loose forecasts when requested to provide Particular region info. Just have friends surfing there.I knew within 200 miles or less where that rupture was likely. If forecasting the Queen Charlottes event 4.1 of late, each tiny temblor in the Cascadia Sub- duction zone Doesn't stun and amaze my friends, then light up a nine under my secluded log warmer! If you could only see my earthquake journal and read the Email that n.i.c.e. is getting you would probably be amazed. The local media came to talk to me at work, I had told my friend when she dropped me off at work that she should take a good look at victoria's (old S.F.) buildings because they might look different in the next day or two. I sat on the bench out front unless a customer led me in under all that old mortar and brick and was on the computer until 4 am. I fell asleep and slept right through the 4.0 quake,(at the time the strongest quake in B.C. all year) My BOSS EMailed- HLSHT! MAYBE ITS JUST YOU HYPING ME OUT TODAY, BUT I SWEAR OUR WHOLE BUILDING JUST SHOOK LIKE GODZILLA RIPPED OUT THE EAST WING...ONE RUMBLE/THUD THE ANOTHER SECONDS LATER. Forecast a 4m at exact location. Explorer plate is the northeastern end of the Cascadia subduction zone and had a 7.8m about the northern offshore area (130 W 50 N)of Vancouver Island. Just check out the forecast for some high percentage hits. Earthquakes always have their special signiture, some tellers know their customers. Thanks for the interest and happy and safe holidays! naturalinterpretivecenterforE.Q.
