Tony, In this area of California buildings have been damaged by earthquakes within the last 25 years, so I have a basic dwelling earthquake policy from California Earthquake Authority. It costs approximately the same per year here as auto insurance on my 7-year-old car. I hope neither policy ever will be needed, but if either is used even once it might be worth much more than premiums paid over many years. I don't know how efficiently claims for the earthquake policy are handled because I haven't needed to make a claim. State Farm is servicing carrier for my CEA policy, and instructions on the policy say to file complaints regarding coverage and service only after State Farm and I have failed to reach satisfactory agreement on a problem.
