Swarm of small earthquakes in L.A. area |
I wonder if anyone has noticed the swarm of small earthquakes in the greater Los Angeles area today. Many of these area being shown at relatively deep epicenters - either errors in location or perhaps some kind anomaly. Most large earthquakes in California begin their rupture at relatively deep focus near the brittle/ductile transition zone where the strain buildup from plate tectonics is greatest. It is not known what these depths mean in terms of a future quake(s) or data errors. I have contacted personnel at SCEC, but do not expect to hear from them on this till tomorrow. In the meantime, has anyone in the L.A. area noticed any unusual animal behavior or water anomalies or other earthquake precursory activity?
