Unusual EQ between Bermuda and Florida |
5.7 quake between Bermuda and Florida. No historical quake within 200 km according to USGS map (see link). And, no, I would not make a link to the moderate geomagnetic activity we are seeing the last 2 days (unusual earthquake for its location, but unusual earthquakes occur now and then-any earthquake in an area with long recurrence interval in "unusual"; geomagnetic activity on this level has been common in the last year or 2). Also, I have been underwhelmed with California and global activity after the Kp9 geomagnetic activity last fall, finding only the possible relation to the coincidence with sudden onset of the flares themselves or of the geomagnetic storms of just a couple of quakes that Lowell pointed out interesting (which I did not look into myself). Things have been a bit dull here-thought I'd stir up a thread... We're having the January thaw in suburbia, although "thaw" is an overstatement in this not-so-cold global warming winter. Maybe my lake melted enough that it will refreeze open water this year and I can study "icequakes" without waiting a year or 2...
