So far I've only recognized two clear ear tones - too few to identify different characteristics or directions (actually both tones were followed by earthquakes west of here). Maybe now I'll be more likely to notice them. I wonder how much a tone's quality and other characteristics vary with individuals. Duration is easier to compare with other people than the other qualities you described.
