I've avoided use of all social media until now, but because I am going for a promotion from "Associate Research Geologist" to "Research Geologist", my thesis advisor suggested I register with Google Scholar and ResearchGate. I did Google Scholar a month or more ago but just registered at ResearchGate. ResearchGate does the social media thing, with followers, ratings, etc. And, you can ask and answer science questions. I'm still avoiding getting drawn in, but could later.

ResearchGate could be part of the reason we get no new science posters at Earthwaves.
