Something I saw on the Windows site said that XP is being discontinued early in 2014.

That is really the only Windows operating system that I know of that will run in a relatively small amount of RAM memory. Vista and higher use a lot of memory to run without problems. And I am wondering what is going to happen after XP is discontinued. Most of my own computers run XP. They could not run Vista or 7 or 8 because of memory limitations.

One of my projects involves contacting Microsoft and recommending that tney do something so that 2/3 of the computers on the planet don't suddenly come grinding to a halt.

Also, the ZoneAlarm security program that I was using on most of my computers will not longer run on some of them because it apparently needs too much memeory.

Did you see the news reports stating that our security agencies have admitted that they are able to intercept and decode cell phone traffic and I believe actually get inside at least some smart cell phones?

That type of information should not be surprising to anyone.
