L.A. Basin earthquake sequence

Several senior staff at the Southern California Seismic Center have been
looking at the recent spate of events in the L.A. area. Here are
some interesting comments from them.

"Just thought I'd let you know that ... and I have been looking at the recent
LA Basin statistics. The only area that appears to be unusual is a box
corresponding more or less with the Malibu/Santa Monica/Hollywood Hills/Raymond
Hill faults. The only thing that is unusual is that we have had three separate
epicenters going (West Hollywood, Silver Lake, and San Gabriel) during the past
45 days. This is the only time this has happened in the past without involving
some major sequence."

No implication should be made from these comments that a major quake
is coming, but the incidence of three separate epicenters showing
activity at the same time is, as stated, unusual.
