Re: The Pinole Fault |
Hi Petra. You could be right, but there is one thing that both of us have over looked. The epicenter of the Mare Island quake has never really been determined. It was thought to have occurred on the Rodgers Creek, or the West Napa fault, but no evidence has ever really been found. That quake occurred on 03/30/1898 and had an intensity of VIII. It has been reported that vibrations in Santa Rosa lasted one and three-quarter minutes. If indeed no evidence has been found to suggest the above-mentioned faults caused the quake then it could have been the Pinole fault that caused the quake. It lies in the San Pablo Bay and it appears that the northeastern end of it is very close to Mare Island. There just isn’t much in the way of a description of the damage done at Mare Island or the surrounding area to suggest really where that quake centered at. So that sort of puts us back to square one. For the lack of anything else to do I’m just going to sit back, put my feet up and wait and see what happens between now and what ever happens when it happens.
