More far-field triggering, this time a Mw 6.0 in northern Chile

We have been following the progress of the far-field forecast
from New Zealand over the past several days. Readers of this
board know that several large (Mw>=6) earthquakes have occurred
in areas where that forecast expected triggering to occur since
the New Zealand earthquake.
A number of events occurred again today which were forecast
in that post.
The largest of these occurred in Northern Chile/Argentina area
The local network gives parameters as:

28AUG2001 06:56:09 22S 69W MW=6.0 DGF NNE of TOCOPILLLA, CHILE

In the far-field forecast from New Zealand, this area, along with
the Moluccas (where a 6.0 occurred yesterday) and Hokkaido (where
a 5.2 occurred earlier in the week) was expected to show significant
aftershock activity:

"In general, areas which appear to consistently have moderate to
strong earthquakes in the 10 days following Ms 7+ earthquakes in
this area of the Kermadecs/N.Z are:
Argentina/Chile border 22-26S 65-68W"

This earthquake falls within 1 degree of the stated zone.

Other posts have dealt with the band of unusual earthquakes
across the plains and mountain states which lie at 101-103 degrees
from the New Zealand mainshock. Since this is the edge of the
shadow zone for this earthquake, it is highly likely that some
far-field triggering is affecting the occurrence of these
U.S. and Canada quakes.
