Mexico & other thoughts

Hi All, I'm wondering if Mexico is what was causing symptoms for some of us? I don't have any idea how far away I can feel symptoms for quakes. Today, no headache and no ear ringing.
While I was in Mexico the first week of August along the coast by PV and Mazatlan I took a trip way back into the mountains. Very interesting (and beautiful geology there) The tour guide was very knowledgable about the geology of the Sierre Madre Mts.
Had a big scare today. Came back from the bus stop after taking Katie there & as rounding the corner the very strong smell of natural gas hit me. I followed the smell to our boiler room. Went to the neighbor closest to boiler room & she smelled it to. I called maintenance & they came immediately (with the fire dept, police and even police chief) The smell was so strong the first maintenance guy on scene was sick as were my neighbor and myself. He radioed for equipment as it was SO strong that they thought an underground line had a leak. Ends up that PG&E had hit a main just across 101 from us & the gas was travelling in a pocket of air and had made it to our court. The way the court is arranged the smell lingered a long time. I got very ill from it, nausea, light headed, almost fainted. Same with my neighbor. We were evacuating when the call came that it was across the freeway and the smell should soon be gone. It took a few hours to recover. I was once again angry because if we have a major quake no one can besides maintenance can get into the boiler rooms. The response was "we'll deal with it". Sure. They don't have enough maintenance teams to turn off gas at all the buildings if necessary. I keep an ax right inside the shed for just such occasions. At one point I was so ill I was not talking coherantly and neither was the maintenance man I was talking to. I packed up my animals and went to McDonalds. Eating breakfast was a big mistake as it didn't stay down. My neighbor was just as bad off & we probably could have benefited from some oxygen as we both felt starved for it.
Hope you all had a better day! Take care, Lucinda
