Peter Jennings ended his news broadcast on Friday with an article on whether animals
have souls. It seems the question had been plaguing his news team from an on-line
poll. The poll suggested that even though the major religions of the U.S. claim that
animals do not have souls and do not go to on to the afterlife, 46% of Americans
(41% of Christian Americans) believe that when they arrive in the afterlife, their
cat or dog will be there to greet them.
He had no conclusion whether indeed animals have souls, but I think it can safely
be said that whether or not animals have "souls", animals certainly have "soul"
