I have some formal programming class training and lots of other types of formal and informal computer training. The problem here is with doing totally new things such as:

Learning how to use FTP and File Management Programs on an Internet Server

Learning how to get Xampp running on a PC.

Learning how to get Xampp to work with a specific bulletin board CGI Perl language program.

Getting that CGI program customized so that all of the internal and external addresses are correct for both the PC and the Internet Server computer. What a mess that is!

Learning where to store the files on the Internet Server and how to set the file permissions for them.

All of these involve developing new skills. Asking other people for help can be productive. But most of this has to be learned by trial and error.

Even my Internet Server technical experts didn’t know how the file permissions need to be set. And they host a LOT of domains that undoubtedly run a lot of CGI programs.
