Hi Canie,

With humor intended, either you have never read any of my posts or you have been reading too many of Roger’s posts and your memory is starting to behave like his.

As I have repeatedly said in these posts, forecasting earthquakes is just one of about two dozen life saving project that I am working on. The most important purely material one involves getting governments to develop new sources of environmentally safe, affordable energy. Just think how much better our economy would be doing and how many more people could afford college and building better earthquake resistant buildings if gasoline, diesel oil, and home heating oil cost only $ 1 per gallon.

Normally I work with small groups of people to get things like that done. The only reason you see me talking about earthquake forecasting in public is because there are no groups anywhere on the planet that I can see that are actually making a realistic effort to forecast earthquakes. There are only groups that are trying to develop earthquake forecasting technologies. And publishing papers about forecasting technologies is a lot different than trying to actually predict them. So, communications have to be out in public forums such as this one. To some extent it is like tossing a bottle with a note in it out into the ocean and hoping that it will do some good.

I am 200% behind efforts to develop and build better housing structures. We are not doing nearly enough. But there will always still be lives somewhere on the planet that can only be saved if we spot an earthquake approaching in the first place and warn people to get out of the way.

Finally,

Every minute that I have to spend on developing earthquake forecasting technologies, something that other people could easily be doing instead of me, is a minute that is not available for work on new energy and advanced medical technology systems etc. And, I am pretty good at this type of work. You see my other types of efforts discussed in the national and international news now and then. So those lost minutes, hours, days, weeks, and months are really taking a toll with regard to what is not getting done with those other projects, many of which would likely have a dramatic impact on your and everyone else around the world’s lives and futures.

These are personal opinions.
