We have a linguistics problem here.

There are amateur scientists who are self taught but follow the proper procedures, who can and have contributed much to their field of interest.

Then there are pseudo-scientists who use the methods I have described, supporting their theories in any way possible. These are detrimental, misleading the public in various ways.
