But, when I was working for an oil company in New Orleans (aack...30 years ago), a bunch of us were hire with Geology degrees and little or no geophysics, and we were hired as geophysicists (includes me). That was because they had been hiring physicists and geophysicists without geology training and found they could not interpret seismic reflection data.

So, we proudly called ourselves pseudo-geophysicists.

Lurkers, I would not want to discourage people with little knowledge of earth science from posting.
