A news story to that same article was posted here a couple of/few months ago. While Geophysical Research Letters is a prestigious journal, John Vidale poked the study full of holes (or something like that). John was the only active seismologist who posted here, and the only one who reads the scientific literature on seismology. So, not good that he does not post here any more. Roger is a seismologist but as far as I can tell from his posts, has been retired for a decade or more and may not read that type of literature. I only read seismological literature if I need to if I am writing a proposal or manuscript for a particular area (for example, I might read a seismologic paper if I want to know where microquakes are occuring in Marmara Sea, or offshore California.
