Northcoast Observation

Hello All,

About 1 1/2 to 2 years ago an uncanny thing was happening in regard to quakes occurring on Andreanof Island, Eureka area and Redding. Better than 75% of the time when Andreanof Island had a quake even in the lower mags in 4's, sometimes within hours or a day or so earthquakes would occur in the Eureka/North Coast Area and then right after that in Redding.

Yesterday I was looking at the activity at Andreanof and it was considerable. Probably the highest level of activity I think I've seen in 3 years. So I was wondering if this same kind of connection was going to happen again. Bingo, the north coast off of Eureka got it again.

So I'm curious as to what's going to happen next. More for Eureka, none, or is Redding going to figure into this senario as in the past? What I find puzzling about this is that the distance is considerable between the two area's, so it seems hardly likely Andreanof could be a trigger. But yet it seems it is.

Anyway, this post is more or less to gather some feedback from the rest of you to ask if you have observed this same behavior yourselves, or maybe noticed something else I missed.

To give you an idea about the frequency of the pattern of the past was, here's a first hand story. Andreanof had a quake around a 4 mag. I made a post on Jim's board calling for a quake in the Eureka to Redding corridor. So that night I was watching the Momento Mori seismograph as I thought I might be able to catch it if it happened. My daughter came in at about 9:50PM and asked me what I was doing. I told her I was waiting for an earthquake to happen near Eureka. So she sat down with me and waited. Five minutes later the seismograph showed an earthquake occurring and within minutes it was up on the USGS CA map. She said, "wow, my Mom can predict earthquakes."

Within six months of that occurrence a change occurred and there no longer was the direct connection. I have no idea why that happened anymore than it going off like a finely tuned clock. Very puzzling.

Good clues would have alerted me to look and see if there was any geomagnetic activity or some other clues I wasn't aware of then. So if this starts to repeat, with a little more knowledge, maybe I can find the missing link.

Any ideas about this would be most welcomed.

Petra
