Energy Matters (OT) – October 18, 2012

In earlier notes I stated that I had developed plans for three energy systems. And I believe that each of them could provide our world with much or all of the energy that we need.

The first system would be 100% renewable or “Green” to use a popular term. If I were in charge of U.S. and international energy policies, this is the one I would focus on developing. It could easily supply our entire planet with all of the energy we need. But its development would undoubtedly be blocked by the oil companies as it could cut into their profits.

The second is 100% nuclear fission related. It could also take care of all of our energy needs. And although the nuclear power companies would probably like that one, environmental groups tend to go through the roof whenever they hear the words, “nuclear power plant.” Considering the sorry history of that industry, who can blame them?

The third is a mixture of renewable and fossil fuel. And I believe that it could have the support of both the oil companies and environmental groups.

On October 16, 2012 I sent a rough outline of that third energy system to U.S. Policy Makers with the intention that the two Presidential Campaign groups examine it.

I suspect that both probably did that. And although the details of the plan were not discussed during the Presidential Debate later on October 16, 2012, it could be that the subject matter contributed to the heated discussion that the two candidates got into regarding energy issues.

Plans are to send along some additional information to those groups before the final public debate which I understand is scheduled for next Monday evening.

In any case, some people in the U.S. who are in decision making positions have now seen at least one proposal for how what a “new, environmentally safe and affordable” source of energy would look like.

There is a popular and apparently very old saying that proposes that “You can lead a horse to water. But you can’t make him drink.”

At the moment, that saying probably applies to Energy Matters.

These are personal opinions.
