Earthquake Weather |
There has been talk of earthquake weather for decades. In Southern California this is considered to be hot Santa Ana conditions. There was even a paper published in the Journal of Geophysical Research 20 years ago by J. Namias (sp?). That does not mean there is anything to it and I imagine seismologists have poked this full of holes. I thought of this because of the unusual electric storm that just went through UCSB the last hour or more. Lots of lightning strikes within a couple of km, down in the coastal plain. I lived here 6 1/2 years and spent a lot of additional time here, and only say lightning nearby a couple of times. There is zero science content to the following, but would be interesting if there was a M4+ quake today in the Santa Barbara to LA region (coastal or near offshore). Just a speculation. I don't think there can possibly be a connection to a small quake, but there were measurements related to electrons for the Tohoku quake (M9).
