Chris, People have looked for such correlations with decades of data. M6+ earthquakes are reliably recorded for many decades. Only a small excess of events happens at short lag times, the famous distant triggered events, and M6 earthquakes are very unlikely to trigger 1000s of km away. And why would the magnitude of the second earthquake matter? Triggered activity follows the usual Gutenberg-Richter distribution. Some things are just coincidences, and examination of a single instance is very difficult to interpret.
