Columbia Missouri. I'd feel a M5.8 from New Madrid but there would be no damage here...couple hundred km. Yup, Irene is going to be interesting. And, a nuclear plant is near the epicenter and shut down. Damage, if any, at the nuclear plant will be interesting. I was told at a NRC job interview a decade ago that many US nuclear plants away from plate boundaries are designed for only something like 0.15 or 0.25 g (I forget, but pretty sure it is that low). The question is whether the shaking from a 5.8 is too short and too high frequency (for example) to damage a nuclear plant. Follow Ups: ● Re: First Colorado - now Virginia?
