Trouble is that if you pitch the message too strongly you will be branded as alarmist.

There is a good scheme currently in operation in Japan. When you first take your child to school, you are asked for the family earthquake plan. You need to have a document that states what arrangements are made for the eventuality that a major quake occurs during school hours, and you are unable to collect your child either because the transport system is totally out or because you are dead or hospitalised.

No plan, the school won't take your child.

THAT focusses the mind somewhat!

But no-one can call it alarmist. It is patently realistic and utterly sensible.
