Penny, I've been curious about Gaia for a while; I thought that Gaia meant that the earth regulates itself ; does not run away=negative feedback, but a lot of the climate change/global warming science states that there will be (is) a lot of positive feedback; things will run away. So, planet striking back is anti-Gaia the way I understand it.

Speaking of the earth striking back, there is pretty phenomenal rain going on here; the local Hinkson creek is heading up very quickly. Driving back from St Louis the last couple hours we were about 1/2 hour ahead of two tornado-warned storms crossing interstate 70. Hinkson Creek broke it's all time stream guage record from remanants of hurricane Ike (Sept 2008??), then broke that record the next spring, and I think it has a good chance of breaking or approaching that record in a few hours.
