I read somewhere that Amboy, which is about 150 miles south east, erupted as recently as 1,500 years ago. By some accounts, Amboy is considered a concern with respect to possible eruption.

I drove down the 395 a week ago. I was amazed at the extent of the volcanic rock covering the area just north of Lone Pine.
