Re: Northridge Earthquake Photos |
Tony, thanks for posting these. It was a trip down memory lane. My husband, sons and I had lived one block west of Balboa, between Devonshire and Chatsworth, but NOT when the Northridge earthquake occurred in 1994, thank goodness. I went to school there at Cal State Northridge; my sons used to run up (or try to) the side of Bullocks there in Northridge Plaza; they went to the orthodontist in that Kaiser Permanente building on Balboa; their pediatrician was in that ultra-modern, but heavily-damaged building on Reseda Blvd. that I recognized; so many, many places I recognized. (I'm surprised, you didn't have a picture of the bell tower that fell over at St. John Baptist de la Salle Church on Chatsworth -- another big photo-op of earthquake damage in the Valley.) Ah, but for the space of a few years (which is nothing in geologic time), that could have been us living there and suffering that devastation first-hand. Instead, we were a safe 60 miles away in Upland, CA -- we felt the strong shake and one picture fell off a wall. In the coming days though, we proceeded to help out family who, unfortunately, lived near the epicenter in Reseda and Granada Hills and suffered heavy damage.
