Cathryn...what does "NT" stand for? Thanks, I looked at the earthquake list, saw a M4.2 in Western Turkey, and did not check where in Western Turkey, so did not realize that this is a significant quake to me. There have been relatively few M4s the last few years in Marmara Sea...at least that I've noticed. This one is near or south of the northern strand of the North Anatolian fault. We'll see if they put up a focal mechanism...may have to go to the European or Turkish site. There were normal-slip aftershocks in this area after the M7++ Aug 17 1999 Izmit quake. But, I think the land to the southwest is a thrust-fold structure (many disagree, and I have not worked there seriously yet). This is near the SE end of the gap...the part that did not break in the 20th Century (or the 21st so far).
