With only possibly the very rarest exceptions, I don't think any earthquake in North or South America (at least), of any significant size (say, over M5.5) could have been predicted/expected based on looking at earthquake occurrence displays, maps or tables, etc. Every damned earthquake is a complete surprise. This, of course, excludes aftershock sequences. Mike W.
