Bill Normark |
Bill Normark of USGS died Jan 12. I held off posting this until I could find an obituary on-line. Bill was once best known for a 1978(?) paper on submarine fans. He was recently in charge of some USGS earthquake hazard studies along the southern California coast. I had been collaborating with him on stratigraphy of Santa Barbara Channel and on the offshore Los Angeles structure and stratigraphy. He is co-author on our manuscript, although I will probably have to get permission from his wife or someone to leave him on: I only sent him the more-or-less complete draft a couple weeks before he died so he probably did not see it. The link does a better job of describing his accomplishments and maybe geologists such as Penny may know of his work and expand on this.
