I was talking about Lowell's Comps paper, not his thesis. I have this still but probably won't check, but I don't think the triggering he was talking about there was any particular angular distance. I forget whether it was talking about P, S, surface waves, or all.

I agree that he would have been better served to have focused on a few things.
I'm learning that myself...there was too mcuh stuff in my Santa Monica-Dume paper and the Palos Verdes manuscript is more focused. We are saving the more focused/more spectacular stuff for a 4 page paper.
