M3.4 Santa Barbara

There was a M3.4 earthquake a couple km off of the Beach at Santa Barbara. This must have given a sharp little jolt to lower State Street area. There are a couple of faults that split off of the South-dipping Moore (sp?) Ranch fault and head out there...I think the LaVigia (sp?) and Mesa faults. One or more of these probably come back ashore farther wast as the Carpinteria fault...which makes a little scarp along route 101 and then has outcrop in a road cut. I spent some time way back poking around there.

Lower State street had heavy damage in the 1925 earthquake and about a dozen fatalities. That was a M6.2 or 6.6 or somewhere in there.
