I use the NGDC historical catalog. This contains over 200 different local and teleseismic
catalogs. The main difference probably comes from the inclusion of the National
Observatory at Athens (NOA) catalog. The PDE is generally fairly good at M>=5, however
locations often differ from local epicenter locations (which are usually preferred). I could
send you a listing of events if you wish.
