One thing to consider is the need to be met.

If the prediction is for "somewhere North of Barstow", greater precision is not a concern.

If someone predicts "within 5 km of 32.27N 105.43W on Jan 3rd, 2002" then you might want a better catalog.

IMHO, of course.
