Earthquakes and sunspots

Hi all;

I've been hearing some talk about sunspots and earthquakes so I thought I'd take a look. A web search turned up a list of the number of sunspots per day. I extracted the portion from 1945-2006, nearly 23000 days. Then I wrote a program to plot these values (500 at a time) on the screen and added lines for large quakes from the Centennial Catalog.

If there's a correlation, I don't see it. Quakes are supposed to happen when the count changes suddenly, but I see quakes scattered randomly without regard for the peaks and troughs of the sunspot numbers.
