The Santa Monica Fault |
Anyone have any info on the Santa Monica fault that runs east west from the Pacific, under Santa Monica and on to Beverly Hills? I have already looked at the links of the CA fault index and it doesn't tell squat. Specifically, it runs under some of the most densly populated regions in America yet no one in So Cal media ever mentions it...i.e. EVERYONE knows about the Hayward and San Andreas faults. Does Caltech not view this fault as a threat, so no probabilities for the fault like there is for the bay area? What about the creep rate, is it too slow to warrant concern? And, anyone know of any geological finds that indicate this fault may have had 6+ quake in the last 10 to 30 thousand years? Just curious. I've exhausted the web and have not found the answers to these questions, I thought maybe someone here might know the scoop. Thanks!
