not enough time for P wave trigger

I should have done the ballpark calculation as I posted...it would take something around 15 minutes for the P wave from Vanuatu to arrive at Honshu, so Honshu was not triggered by P or S waves. So, was this a coincidence? Or, is something going on that no one understands?
