PREDICTION - El Centro Area |
Magnitude: 6+ I saw some things I thought were abnormal. I combined the creep rates with areal recurrence and give it a try. Few predictions are made here. Hope this is a bit more entertaining. It will take 6 months to know. The complex of micro swarms around Ocotillo is rather interesting. Two of these swarms are the most active since 1973. Also, the depths on these latest quakes are right at the boundary between the Salton Trough infill and the metamorphic basement complex. Most all of the quakes are running at between 0.5 Km and about 6.0 Km. Some are a bit deeper, but they are loitering around the infill interface. Also of interest is the conglomerate at Anza south of the seismic gap. These quakes are hitting at nominal depths around 14 Km. Further south, near Borrego, the quakes are striking a bit deeper at 15 and 16 Km, again, nominal depth. South Anza is a 2D problem, and happens from time to time. The Ocotillo micros are rare. As I go over some more data, my mind tells me to put up a forecast for Ocotillo. So I will. 6+ within 6 months. Can't ignore these. Also Brawley has hit from 5.9 to 15.0 Km. More fuel in the fire. Something is coming, south. I'll have more. A part of the data below. Link is the map. Also there has been a major creep episode on the Superstitian Hills Fault. Adding things up. Ocotillo # 1 --Plaster City is north of Ocotillo. These are the most energetic and temporally spaced quakes in the PDE file. PDE-Q 2006 11 29 121735.54 32.82 -115.97 3 3.80 MLPAS .F . ....... 2 Ocotillo # 2 Jacumba is also very energetic, and temporally active; PDE-W 2006 07 24 020141 32.71 -116.06 6 2.90 MLECX .F . ....... 0 Ocotillo # 3-- Laguna Salada is very active, but a larger swarm occured in 1988.
