I heard what I guess is called a tone for about 5-10 seconds at 3am this morning. I've heard these things all my life but, after listening to people on this board, am wondering if it is something more than just something in my head.

What do this tones sound like, are they in one ear or both, how does one come up with directionality for tones? I don't know much about them ...
