Hey Y'all: I doubt lack of information is the problem. I would guess that 95% of the people in California know that they should have a disaster kit in their home, and another in their car. I would also speculate that the vast majority already know what should go in it. I think the problem is the getting people off their butt and putting a kit together. I would think the most effective way would be to show PSA (public service announcements) on TV, you know the type, 10 seconds about such things as wearing your seatbelt, preventing forest fires etc.. Kinda keep it in the public eye. Bottom line, people are unlikely to do anything about it without some major poking and prodding. I was sound asleep about 1 mile as the crow flies from the epicenter of a certain 6.7 EQ on January 16th, 1994 at 4:31AM. I was without water for 3 days, without gas for 7, and had on and off power for 24 hours. Even after living through that, I still do not have an earthquake kit. Don't ask me why not, cause I'm not sure of the answer. Its not due to a lack of knowledge about how to put one together. It might take Seattle getting wiped of the face of the earth by a 9.5 for California to put together EQ kits, sorry to say....
