Just thought I'd mention that I had quit smoking, after 30 years of it, on 7/9/00. I used both Welbutrin and Nicorette. I've been off the Welbutrin for about 2 months now and have cut back by half on the Nicorette.

I did it because I had to, not because I wanted to. I was having a lot of trouble breathing. And with a 16 year old daughter and a 7 year old son I figured that I had better quit smoking if I wanted to be around for their special events later on in life.

I had tried to quit several times before but wasn't successful. But this time around I really didn't suffer that much. Oh, occasionally I get strong urges to smoke but when that happens I ask, do I really want to go thru those bouts of not being able to breath. The answer was no and so I persevered. Those times of not being able to breath were pretty scary. It was a strange feeling.

So, if I can do it, anybody can do it. Especially since I really enjoyed smoking. It came down to making a choice between my family or my own selfish desires.
