Re: Introductions |
Hi All - I was born and raised in Southern California - Started working on computers in 1976, then did some college work on computers, started programming, started my own programming business (in the days before canned programs), and still have that business as my primary income. Around 1996 or so, I discovered Earthquake information on the internet - Now, as you all know, there's a LOT of dis-information out there on earthquakes. I have also always been fascinated by geology, pretty rocks, and the fascinating vistas as you drive north on Highway 395 towards Mammoth Lakes. In 1997 I started taking Geology classes at Long Beach City College in an effort to be able to discern what was true information and what was false info about earthquakes, predictions, volcanos, and other geologic processes. One class just didn't cut it, so I kept on.. I do have an AS, but have not completed the BS and am currently not taking any courses. I did take some of the upper division courses, but then got burned out. Maybe I'll still finish it... In the meantime, I live with my husband and cats. I take the cats to cat shows and am the Membership Secretary of a very large Bengal Cat organization (www.tibcs.com). In the meantime, during all this I had found various web sites on prediction - Earthwaves being one of them. Susan Rosenburg was the original owner of the site - at some point, she no longer could manage it, so I took it over. The original intent of Earthwaves was to be a safe place for earth-sensitives to post their predictions. My own dislike of mis-information (or outright stuff that was just wrong - like california falling off into the sea) made me sensitive to the types of postings that were being made. I welcome the psychic-type predictions, along with the scientific based predictions, as long as we all know where someone is coming from. I think this is a venue for education as well. I am always open to learning new things. We also had some interesting characters along the way - some who just spammed the site, creating the need for a log in/password structure to keep out the abusers. I try to not dominate the conversations, or even pretend to be the 'owner' unless things get really slow. As I have mentioned to others, this site seems to have a life of it's own and I try to stay out of the way it goes. As long as good conversation is happening, and no abuse, I'm happy. I think it's important to keep the conversation of Earthquake Prediction alive. I don't know when we'll get there, but I do believe we will. I think it's a matter of gathering enough data - and computers are probably powerful enough now to crunch all that data.. I haven't a clue about neural-nets, but I bet they'de help...
