It's such a good forum because Canie has a B.S. meter calibrated lower than most other site managers. Thank you, Canie, for all you do.

Let's see:

I relish a good argument. I've recently provided several good arguments regarding the futility of deterministic prediction, and other, more specific issues, including the chaotic nature of the earthquake nucleation process, the human failings in pattern recognition, the Full Moon Effect, and much more. The responses have been only tangential.

I, for one, agreed with everything you posted. The spouse and I were just discussing the Full Moon Effect, relative to something. Oh, astrology. This may sound lame, but for me the jury is still out on the subject, which will, no doubt piss off believers and non-believers.

Contrary to deterministic prediction, I sometimes feel certain things going either exceptionally well in life, or exceptionally poorly, and then check in with a few astrologers I know, only to find something rather rare and extraordinary is going on. Simultaneously, I have never seen a good argument made for why astrology should work. Most of the arguments against astrology make perfect sense to me. Yet, there are these unexplained things that seem to work, and yet, science et. al. has totally debunked astrology as a pseudo science.

What's a mother to do?
