I remember being a small child in LA and being able to drive anywhere in under an hour. I also remember years with no smog, and then, as if overnight, horrendous smog for what seemed like decades. From the top of Mulholland and Laurel Canyon, where we lived in those days, you could always see the mountains across the valley. I miss all that, but not the earthquakes! I think if I lived down south these days I'd exist in a constant state of anxiety. But Joan, it's not your area I worry about. It's the desert around the Salton Sea, San Bernadino–Anza, and down by San Diego. Not that you or Canie wouldn't feel any of these, but one wouldn't be as intense as if right under your foundation.
