I understand what you are saying. I think there is some validity to the idea that one might perceive a "sound" that is not caused by momemtary tinnitus. My struggle would be in telling the difference. I too have heard many strange "sounds" and just figured they were variations attributable to the medical answer.

Now, my wife on the other hand, she can tell if the PC monitor is left on. I was skeptical at first, but asked an electrical engineer what might cause such a sound and learned the science behind it. I then asked her to stay downstairs and tell me if the thing was on or off. She was right 100% of the time! So, what I learned is that some people can hear things others can't and there are mechanisms at work that cause these sounds.

I am sure there are lots of things that could conceivably cause people to hear sounds. So, I don't discount that idea at all. I just have a problem with the ear tone/earthquake connection when no one seems able to talk about what causes the wave that makes the sound. When you hear what you hear, what do you think it is?
