John Question

John,

While we seem to have issues of a hot nature on our plate, could I ask you if there are any particular theories which you are aware of regarding seismic activity in both active and inactive volcanic areas. As you know, the Bay Area is full of volcanic locales in these categories. So what sets an inactive place apart from one which is active. IE: The Geysers are always active, but other places like the Oakland Hills rarely is. Does it then revert back to the behavior of prevailing local fault activity? Gosh, I think I just thought of twenty questions, but I'll defer to the shorter version.

Thanks,

Petra
