Re: In search of anomalies in Santa Rosa |
Hi Everyone, I headed straight for the fault scarp at the end of Lomitas Avenue in Santa Rosa this evening and it was a perfect evening for walking. It was still in the high 60's in the shade and I had the good fortune of meeting the man who owns the nature preserve. He was out doing some work around the drains and the east end of the preserve and I walked over and introduced myself and explained I was interested to know if there had been any change in the animal activity in the past few days. It was apparent to me he lives across the street. As he cleaned the mud off of his sand shovel he told me that yesterday he never heard a bird sing and there were no squirrels around at all. He said today it was closer to normal. I asked him if he minded if I left my car where I parked and he said that was fine by him. As I drifted down the road trying to get the best glimpse of the massive rock structure which is due north I found four black tail deer grazing on the property. One kept a close eye on me while the others grazed. I almost met the woman who owns the property adjacent to the preserve as she nearly hit me with her car, but smiled nicely, mouthed "I'm sorry" and drove up the hill. Now if I could only figure out why no birds were singing in the area and other wild life were scarce on a day that was absolutely beautiful. It's odd, but other than that, with only one day of odd behavior it's not enough. Oh well, up to Windsor on Saturday to have a look an alluvial fan which has been having earthquakes right under it and I'll see what the folks in the area have to say about that.
